A Guide To Landing Pages

Landing pages (often called ‘lead capture pages’) are pages designed to appear against a particular topic or search phrase.

The great advantage of landing pages is their ability to help retain and capture visitors. They are, by their nature, pages highly relevant, or a complete match, to the visitor’s search enquiry – designed to satisfy the visitor and stopping them continuing their search further elsewhere.

They are a highly effective tool in generating targeted traffic from SEO, or in receiving visitors who have come through other traffic sources such as emails or pay-per-click.

At Think we use landing pages to not only increase traffic but increase the likelihood of enquiries and sales by ensuring, through the targeted mix of the content on the page, we tap into the mindset of the visitor.

In terms of SEO, landing pages are designed to focus on specific keywords and key phrases – one per unique page – to allow Google to promote this page above others.

Why not send to homepage?

  • You cannot optimise the homepage for all keywords or if you did it would be detrimental to the visitors' impressions of the site and the entity.
  • Relevance – people searching under a keyphrase are looking for the purpose of that keyword or phrase therefore and are more likely to engage and visit the rest of the site when hitting an immediately relevant page.
  • Capture – a landing page has more space, compared to a homepage, and so more promotional content can be included to help convince the visitor to enquire or purchase something directly there and then.
  • Contact – with less information to distract them or steer them elsewhere the visitor is more likely to make contact, through a friendly (simple and non-onerous) contact form.

How do you manage landing pages?

Landing pages can be static pages updated manually by your developer, however at Think we recommend using a simple content management system allowing you to "add/edit/delete" landing pages, including images, titles, body text and also meta data.
